Watch: North Atlantic right whale calf and mom swimming off the coast of Florida

A mom and her new born calf were spotted swimming off the coast of Satellite Beach, Florida this week. North Atlantic right whale moms form special bonds with their young. Calves will nurse for the first year or two and will remain close to their mothers until they reach sexual maturity at around age 10. 

There have been a few new additions to the right whale population so far this year, including these three calves spotted last month.  New babies are critically important for the future of this endangered species. There are only approximately 400 North Atlantic right whales remaining. 

While these calves are beautiful to watch, and bring a cautionary hope for the future, more needs to be done to protect them and ensure their survival. Join us as a Wavemaker and help protect North Atlantic right whales.
