Watch: These underwater mountains are huge, and hugely important
Estimated reading time: 0 minutes
Seamounts, or submarine mountains, are rich habitats for unique species and migratory animals like tuna and whales. Historically, we haven’t given these little-studied ecosystems the protection they deserve — but that’s beginning to change.
In two weeks, we’re going on an expedition with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Ocean Networks Canada and the Haida Nation to explore and protect seamounts in Canada. From July 5-21 you can tune in to ProtectOceans.ca to watch livestream footage of seamounts and climb underwater mountains with us!
