- Narwhal! The narwhal’s large tusk has coined them the nickname “unicorns of the sea.” These spiraled tusks are actually an enlarged tooth that has been seen reaching three meters in length!
- Humpback whales are known for their incredibly long migrations! Some humpbacks are known to travel over 15,000 kilometers round trip to access their feeding grounds in the summer and get back to warm waters for the birthing season.
- True! Canada is bordered by three major oceans: the Atlantic Ocean on the east coast, the Pacific Ocean on the west coast and the Arctic Ocean to the north.
- The leatherback. Weighing around 250 to 900 kilograms with lengths of up to two meters, the leatherback is the largest species of sea turtle! These incredible animals can be seen in the waters of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans.
- Churchill, Manitoba, is one of the few places where you can see beluga whales up close in the wild as they migrate to Hudson Bay during the summer months.
- Sea otters have incredibly dense fur, with up to one million hairs per square inch, which helps insulate them and keep them warm in cold ocean waters.
