Exploring and Protecting Canada’s Oceans

Overview

Oceana Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), Heiltsuk and Kitasoo/Xai’Xais Nations, Central Coast Indigenous Resource Alliance and Ocean Networks Canada set sail to explore sites in the Central Coast of British Columbia at depths where almost no scientific exploration has occurred.

The expedition collected data that will help identify ecologically important areas for marine planning, protect vulnerable species – such as rockfish – and habitat that have a high conservation value from human threats.
