Fisheries are really important in Canada, yet key data about our oceans and the health of our fish is hard to come by. Oceana Canada commissioned renowned fisheries scientists Dr. Julia K. Baum and Dr. Susanna D. Fuller to assess the state of Canada’s fisheries. The report authors spent months scouring government websites and reports and tracking down individual government scientists to build a picture of stock health. Still, the picture is incomplete. Partly because of a lack of transparency and partly because of the failure of the government to conduct regular assessments. Canadians must be able to assess how our government is doing and hold them accountable for management decisions. Read the full report here, and share this post to show your support for making the Canadian government more transparent in how it manages our fisheries and oceans.
